Browne Jacobson announces landmark move to 103 Colmore Row

29 March 2022

Browne Jacobson is relocating its Birmingham office to 103 Colmore Row, the city’s latest flagship office development.

The national law firm has signed a ten-year lease for 12,146sq ft on the 15th floor of the iconic building with joint partners Sterling Property Ventures and Tristan Capital Partners.

The firm is expected to relocate its 185 strong Birmingham based legal and support team from Victoria Square House by the end of Q3 2022.

103 Colmore Row is Birmingham’s newest and tallest office building, offering 223,631 sq ft of BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Grade A office space. The building also includes a two-storey top floor restaurant and ground floor café operated by D&D London, a members’ business club on the 18th floor and a roof top winter garden with panoramic views of the city. It is also the first commercial office building in Birmingham’s Central Business District to link up with Birmingham’s low-carbon District Energy Scheme and the first office in the city to have achieved an EPC A rating.

The decision by Browne Jacobson to relocate from its current premises at Victoria Square House follows a period of sustained growth for the firm and its Birmingham team. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Browne Jacobson posted a record turnover of £85m for the year ending 30 April 2021. This marked a 44% increase in revenues since 2015. The firm’s Birmingham posted £21m in turnover for the same period, a 140% increase in revenues since 2010-11.

Richard Medd, managing partner at Browne Jacobson, said :

“We are delighted to have agreed a lease for 103 Colmore Row. Since we opened our Birmingham office back in 1999, we have seen exceptional growth and we believe that this move heralds an exciting new chapter for us in the city.

“For us this move is a reflection of our long term commitment to grow our Birmingham team, continue to deliver exceptional client service and attract and retain the best talent we can in one of the most active and vibrant legal markets in the country.”

James Tait, head of Browne Jacobson’s Birmingham office, added:

“For us Birmingham is without doubt one of the most exciting cities in the country to live and work in.

“Birmingham has undergone a major transformation in recent years and with the Commonwealth Games just around the corner there is a palpable buzz in the city.

“Against this backdrop we are thrilled to announce our move to 103 Colmore Row. The building’s central location, innovative design, state of the art facilities and first class ESG credentials are second to none and offers the perfect agile and collaborative working destination for our people and clients.”

The office space is being marketed by joint agents Colliers International, Cushman & Wakefield and Knight Frank. OBI Property advised Browne Jacobson on the transaction.
