Lessons learnt: parental retaliation to school sanctions

08 July 2024
Browne Jacobson, Exeter

Please join us for a discussion around managing criminal allegations made by pupils/students against staff.

We are finding an increasing trend for parents to respond to sanctions against their children through retaliation. This takes the form of reporting members of staff to the police, resulting in the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), police and external agencies joining in investigations.

We’d like to explore a number of points with you:

  1. How does the situation come about?
  2. What role do the police have in the accusation?
  3. What role does the headteacher play and who controls the process?
  4. What role does the LADO play?
  5. How can the school support staff accused of assaulting a student?
  6. Can you prepare for such a situation and what should you be doing to avoid it?

This complimentary session will run from 2.30pm until 4pm on Monday 8 July in our Exeter office. If you are unable to attend in person, we’ll also be offering this session online.

Our in-person and online events are designed exclusively for clients and targets. As such, we reserve the right to cancel bookings. If you’d like to speak to a member of the team regarding your attendance, please contact us.
