UK and Ireland law firm Browne Jacobson has advised the management of Eco2 Solutions Group Limited on its sale to E.ON UK. This sale includes its subsidiary, Eco2 Solar Limited, which is the largest residential solar installer in the UK. This significant transaction marks a significant move to expand the UK’s residential renewable market.
Founded and headquartered in the Midlands with additional bases in Scotland, Eco2 Solar specialises in solar panel installations for new-build homes and apartments. Since its inception, the company has installed solar systems on over 50,000 homes, generating an estimated 85 million kilowatt-hours per annum of clean electricity.
The move aims to accelerate growth in the new-builds market and reduce CO2 emissions in the housing sector as the government seeks to build 1.5 million new homes and achieve clean energy by 2030.
E.ON UK is a leading energy supplier and a key player in the country’s transition toward a low-carbon, sustainable energy future. Headquartered in Coventry, E.ON UK is part of the global E.ON Group, one of Europe’s largest investor-owned energy companies.
The Browne Jacobson team advising on the deal was led by partner Richard Cox, supported by associate Joe Harris.
Richard Cox, partner at Browne Jacobson said:
“We are proud to have advised the management of Eco2Solar on this landmark transaction. This is a major step forward not just for Eco2Solar and E.ON UK, but for the renewable energy landscape in the UK. Eco2Solar has played a pivotal role in making solar power a mainstream option for UK homes, and this deal will further accelerate that mission."
Paul Hutchens, chief executive of Eco2Solar, said:
"My vision has always been to make solar standard and to change the way that we think about how we get our energy in this country. E.ON UK and Eco2Solar have the opportunity and resources to create new models that will make solar and other sustainable technologies available to everyone. We are incredibly grateful to Browne Jacobson for their expert legal guidance and unwavering support throughout this important transaction.”
