Lessons learned: Mental health issues

12 November 2024
Browne Jacobson, Exeter

Please join us for a discussion around managing Mental Health Issues affecting staff and students.

We are finding an increasing trend for parents to cite anxiety as a reason for student’s poor behaviour choices be it in defense of exclusion or suspensions or as part of SEN. It is also an increasing reason for absence from school for both students and staff. There is also the matter of parents’ mental health and the affect on students and school. We would like to explore a number of points:

  1. How does the situation come about?
  2. How is mental health recognised for students and staff?
  3. What is the responsibility of the school to provide on-going educational provision?
  4. Should a part-time timetable be provided?
  5. When does the Local Authority take over?
  6. How can the school support staff members who have been identified as having mental health issues and how do schools ensure Occupational Health advice is fit for purpose?
  7. How do you manage staff whose own children are school refusers?
  8. How do you manage a parent with mental health issues?

The complimentary session will run from 2pm until 3.30pm on Tuesday 12 November in our Exeter office. If you are unable to attend in person, we’ll also be offering this session online.
