'Biodiversity Net Gain - lessons learnt half a year in…' webinar

07 November 2024

Mandatory BNG came into force earlier this year - but how is it going? What have we learnt? What do we still need to work on?

BNG became mandatory in February 2024 - which has resulted in changes needing to be made by local authorities to policies, processes and decision making throughout the planning process.

This webinar will explore how the first few months of BNG have impacted local authorities and what lessons can be learnt.

We will explore how mandatory BNG is going: What lessons have been learnt in the past few months? What questions are still outstanding? Where challenges have arisen, how they have been navigated? What opportunities are being explored? We will consider the different capacities that local authorities are working in:

  • when determining planning applications and approving gain plans;
  • acting as the enforcement body;
  • as landowners; and
  • as developers.

This session will be hosted by Helen Gill, who previously worked on the development of BNG for Natural England, and Jonathan Allen, Partner in our Planning and Environment team.
