Energy and infrastructure sector
Recently we’ve seen unprecedented challenges in the energy and infrastructure sector, both domestically and across the globe. All three pillars of the energy trilemma - affordability security and sustainability - are now simultaneously critical. Despite these conditions, our energy lawyers have continued to work on some of the most important recent transactions in the energy market, supporting a broad range of energy and infrastructure sector clients.
The pace of change in the energy and infrastructure sector has been somewhat dizzying. Global issues such as decarbonisation, innovation, protectionism and resource scarcity have led to the introduction of many UK law and policy initiatives, and this continues to rapidly evolve. The effects of these global pressures are very much being felt at national and regional levels.
Despite the ongoing challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, supply chain disruptions, rising energy costs, inflation geopolitical tensions and the effects of climate change, the significant momentum surrounding the energy transition presents a real need for rapid development and innovation – and thus opportunity.
The urgent need for investment into clean technology, renewable energy and associated infrastructure is continuing to grow. Whilst liquidity in the infrastructure market continues to be strong, challenges remain in the sphere of lesser-matured clean and infra technology and these must be addressed in order to further the net zero agenda.
Societal and environmental impact are at the top of our business agenda and we’re proud to support the delivery of transactions in this sphere. As a firm we’re underpinned by a firmwide sustainable energy and net zero commitment, and view our work in the energy and infrastructure sector as an extension of our values.
Our energy and infrastructure sector-aligned teams take a pragmatic approach, making the complex simple and forging connections between clients to find creative solutions. We draw on our experience working with a broad range of clients including sponsors, equity investors, financiers corporates, public sector clients, contractors, construction companies, developers, landowners and energy purchasers. This unique combination of a leading-edge public sector practice (backed by a commitment to and understanding of Government), a strong private sector base and a wide breadth of clients, means our energy lawyers are familiar with the concerns and objectives of all participants in the energy and infrastructure sector.
